||||
Hacker Public Radio is a community project and it relies on the community to produce and submit shows

To keep things going and if we don't get enough shows at some point this whole thing shuts down

I'm gonna assume you don't want that to happen. I know I don't want that to happen. I think Hacker Public Radio is a wonderful resource

But keep it going got to get some shows. It's easy to do

So please record something get up there if you've never done it before

Traditionally people will post a first show about something like how they got into technology

||||
So I'm going to now continue with my look at my

||||
Different YouTube subscriptions

And talk about them

||||
So the next one I'm gonna talk about is is one called parlagram

Parlagram is a music
|
||||
Related site most of what they do, but not all
|
||||
has to do with the Beatles and
|
||||
So that might be thought they did
|
||||
For instance some very interesting ones about
|
||||
Some of the tapes
|
||||
Original recording masters and things like that that they're able to look at and

||||
He did a

a tour inside
|
||||
Abbey road studios and got to talk to some of the people who work there
|
||||
So stuff that I find interesting
|
||||
So the next one is Paul Whitewick

I don't remember how I stumbled across this one

Very interested in the history of England
|
||||
I say England because I think that's really what he focuses on
|
||||
Not great Britain or the United Kingdom
|
||||
And a lot of it is historical so

He will take a look at old Roman roads and

||||
Look for historical sites that might be 2000 years old
|
||||
A lot of what he does is getting out into
|
||||
The outdoors and
|
||||
Walking around to sites and showing them to you
|
||||
And if you have an interesting history
|
||||
Particularly English history
|
||||
You might be interested in that

Then there's PBS Eons now
|
||||
PBS is in America the public broadcast system and
|
||||
What they did is they set up an arm called PBS digital and they are
|
||||
Linked I don't know the exact
|
||||
Contractual details they're linked with complexity which does crash course and some of those things
|
||||
And so Eons is about
|
||||
Prehistoric history so it's it's going back
|
||||
Into deep time it could be dinosaurs it could be prehistoric hominids
|
||||
Yeah, so it's long ago
|
||||
Now these shows
|
||||
They can vary
|
||||
They've started the thing called deep time and these are like hour-long
|
||||
Life and death on a tiny
|
||||
Dinosaurs island could you survive the end of the triassic stuff like that
|
||||
Others are you know the 10 to 15 minute range
|
||||
So one of them
|
||||
Good example of that how animals got anuses
|
||||
which is you know it's a scientific problem to figure out
|
||||
No one was when the Amazon flowed backwards
|
||||
So interesting stuff and
|
||||
Another one from PBS is PBS origins
|
||||
Now this is a history show and because PBS is the American
|
||||
Public broadcast system it's they're talking about American history and
|
||||
Trying to look at why things are the way they are in this country
|
||||
So they did things like
|
||||
History of America's highways
|
||||
um
|
||||
Who can identify as a native American?
|
||||
Things like that
|
||||
So it's it's American history and then there's PBS space time
|
||||
This is a very interesting one for me at least this is hardcore physics
|
||||
um so
|
||||
Typically these episodes that come out once a week they're gonna be 15 to 20 minutes long
|
||||
So you know is the way function the building block of reality
|
||||
What is the new ultimate energy limit of the universe?
|
||||
What if the universe did not start with the big bang
|
||||
This is some of the things that they have tackled
|
||||
You know you over time you get a pretty good
|
||||
Education in relativity and what's involved in that and black holes and all of those good things
|
||||
um
|
||||
Next channel is
|
||||
PCJ Law
|
||||
Now this is someone who's a gamer
|
||||
so
|
||||
He does a lot mostly civilization
|
||||
Which you might expect for me you know that I would find someone who does a lot of sieve
|
||||
um
|
||||
And so he did for instance and his videos tend to be longer
|
||||
so
|
||||
Mastering the Civ5 early game on deity and he does kind of a walk through of what you need to do if you
|
||||
Want to accomplish that
|
||||
um
|
||||
Or
|
||||
Civ5 beginner tactics to win more wars
|
||||
How to build big cities
|
||||
And so on
|
||||
A lot of it is Civ5
|
||||
uh

||||
Well, you know in our civilization series I've pointed out that different versions of Civ

There are people who are still playing them to this day and think they're you know
|
||||
There there are people who think Civ3 was the best
|
||||
Civ ever released
|
||||
Another group of people think no it was Civ4 was the best and Civ5 and so on and as I'm recording this Civ7 is going to be out in a few weeks
|
||||
Well, you know
|
||||
That's how it is so this channel PCJ Law is uh it's gonna have a lot of Civ5 information
|
||||

The next channel is periodic videos
|
||||
And this is another one of those ones by Brady Haran and I mentioned that he
|
||||
He has a channel about chemistry
|
||||
uh and this is that channel the periodic part is a
|
||||
Reference back to the periodic table and
|
||||
What it is is each video
|
||||
It's kind of like takes a look at
|
||||
A particular element and
|
||||
There's a well-known chemist who is one of the main hosts of this channel
|
||||
And
|
||||
There will do experiments and see you know what happens if you take this and you know you take a particular mineral and
|
||||
Um
|
||||
What happens if you
|
||||
File it into powder and then drop the powder into a flame, you know will it produce a particular color or something like that?
|
||||
If you like
|
||||
Chemistry this this is pretty good
|
||||
Then there's a fellow named Philip Hawkins
|
||||
And he calls his channel
|
||||
Culture Phil culture filter, sorry
|
||||
But the Phil coming from his name and this is another
|
||||
Mostly doctor who occasionally does something else, but primarily doctor who related
|
||||
Reviews analysis stuff like that
|
||||
Then there's photo advanced
|
||||
uh and this is a channel that is devoted to
|
||||
Gimp
|
||||
Inkscape and blender and it does tutorials
|
||||
And so if you want it to learn more about any of those three software things
|
||||
You know this would be a good place to go to get more information
|
||||

So there's a Gimp beginners guide tutorial course which is a series of videos that take you through that
|
||||
Gimp text blenders beginners guide blender tutorials and so on
|
||||
Next is physics girl
|
||||
Now this it right now is
|
||||
Sort of on hiatus unfortunately the host
|
||||
Diana Cohen
|
||||
Got long COVID
|
||||
And so she is just just recently got to the point that she could get out of bed and stand
|
||||
Which tells you how bad it got
|
||||
She spent several years basically just in bed I'm able to do anything
|
||||
But she did some very nice
|
||||
Videos about physics and I'm hoping she gets back to it and so I'm sticking with the channel see how she's doing and
|
||||
Hoping that
|
||||
Eventually she'll get back to doing the videos that she's known for
|
||||
The videos that she did on physics is really good
|
||||
So

Then there's a channel called politics girl and this is
|
||||
You know news and
|
||||
Public affairs stuff in the United States
|
||||
So if you're not interested in American politics and I
|
||||
Realize a lot of people aren't then skip over it but if that's something that is of interest to you
|
||||
this is

||||
And as you might expect given my leanings it did so
|
||||
It's kind of a view from the left on this
|
||||
Then there's popular cruising
|
||||
And these videos
|
||||
They're a little bit
|
||||
longer than some of the ones I do it's
|
||||
Generally reviews of either a cruise ship or some activity
|
||||
and they tend to be
|
||||
20 to 30 minutes
|
||||
long
|
||||
You know if you want that sort of thing and you want to know about what's the newest ship and and

What was it like traveling on that ship?

||||

Next is one called postmodern jukebox

This is a fascinating one

What they do is they take

And do them in an earlier musical style

My wife and I have been to see them live they they do have a

And the live shows are also fascinating and and we've enjoyed them a great deal

Primarily sieve but

Really strategy for ex games in general

He does videos some of them are tutorial videos many of them are

||||
He'll do a series of videos that take you through an entire game from start to finish
|
||||
Now sieve games

||||
Can take a long time to play so doing it from start to finish might mean 12 hours worth of video
|
||||
And then he'll he'll break it up into you know 12 one hour segments or something like that
|
||||
It's good stuff if you're into it
