Update metadata and transcripts through end of July 2026

Refreshed episodes/hosts/comments/series from hpr.sql, and added
official HPR transcripts for the 180 episodes aired since the last
sync (hpr4516-hpr4695).

Hi, I'm on episode 3 of Live in the Tax Life, where I document me, my journey of running
with Linux has my daily driver, since last time I got new laptop, then a new VOT14 as AMD
would stick to thinking around.
I'm recording the episode and I'm still running the experiment, and I'm absolutely loving
it.
I haven't had anything that forces me to use Windows yet, I've been automating my installation
progress, which I'll deep dive into during this episode.
Regarding the TE4S laptop, it's brilliant, it's fast and a battery life is amazing.
Intesting on getting around about 6 to 7 hours of constant use, since I've brought
it second hand, I checked the battery capacity, and it was at 98% and I had an 48 cycles,
so it was unbelievable.
I was going to get new battery, but there's no point.
In future episodes, I want to talk about using something like Perfucius, to monitor the
battery usage and also RAM usage, because I'd really like to have a laptop with 30
kgm, but the problem is that they're very rarely used when you get the memory is sold
on the board.
So I've been automating my setup, pick up and try, and next, I've been on a number of
laptops, I had lying around, I haven't automated the actual installation of it in
the next minute, but actually it's not like this is possible.
As I mentioned before, I like to have my laptop hard drive and cryptid, in case I need
to deal the haste.
I've been a second new option to install Mint with LVM and setting the encrypted drive
part, dives option.
The problem is that I want to have a custom partition setup on my laptop, I put in a
mini, one terabyte m.2 drive into the laptop, I want to have a 100 gigabyte root partition
phase gig, gig, swap partition, a 700 gig, home drive, and a 100 gig as a backup drive
for time shift.
The rest of the space can be used if I want to expand any of the partitions in the future,
I've talked more about time shift they do in the episode.
I want to separate the space out so that if I need to reinstall my home drive wouldn't
be affected.
I looked at how to set up a custom partition with an experiment, but it looks like it's
not possible to do an installation when you're using LVM.
There are two options, setting up the partitions first and installing the instrument on them.
But it is quite in-depth, and if you want to use LVM encrypted drive, I find a guide
that suggests that you select the standard install with LVM and encrypt the drive, then
after the install you can strengthen the drive to create extra partitions.
I'll link in a show next to my guide how I do this.
So after the install while the LVM is still loaded on the system, I shrunk the main
repartition down to 100 gig, as I resize the spot tissue to 30 gig, and then create the
partition home for home at 100 gig and 100 gig for backups.
I then run a number of commands to move the home directly to new partition, I had set
up.
They are mounted to the LVM volume, rebooted, and there it was, or working.
So I wanted to install all my apps, fight, act, and flatback, and restore my configs.
I'll even link again in the show notes where details of all these commands.
Firstly, I wanted to find out what applications I had to install via app, and flatback.
I tried a number of commands, but I found that the one that worked for me, it showed
instance in the show notes, as managed to just show all the application is stored, since
we're including one to sort it when you install the OS.
But I wanted to just list dusting ones and stores into the installing the expense.
I'm using a program called Ansible to auto setup my machine, it's a tool used by default
to people to configure and make machines using SSH.
But by using the connection load collection, it can be used to configure your load
call machine.
You can store Ansible by app, then you need to create a Yamaha, I'll click example in my blog
As you can see, you can store app for repositories and sorts of certificates for them.
Each second is a different part, you can see, I then install the apps, fire app, adding
this, you pulled earlier.
And then you can see, I added a list of all the fat packs I wanted to install too.
You can run the Ansible Highfirm Paybook command, point into the Yamaha, and you'll see
it come back showing what where it is in installing each section, after it run, you can
see all my apps were installed.
I haven't, I have all my Ansible Yamaha's going to just to a private Git repository,
just in case I'll put some sense of information in there.
Next I wanted to list all preferences, like Git configs, the great preferences, either
normally are in the dock config folder in your home directory.
These are the hidden files, so you'd have to normally go to the top and go to view and show
a hidden file to you, or to see them.
At the moment, I manually copy these from a working laptop and commit them to my repo.
I can then go into my Git repo, I can go into Git repo into another podcast.
If anyone is interested in a manual of PC config files on my new install, you can configure
Ansible to check out these repo and copy them to the OECM machine by haven't done
this yet.
Next I'll things like setting up all papers and keyboard shortcuts.
I have configured.
To transfer these over, you need to use decomp, this dump to get a name config to a file.
I have lots of trouble setting this, but if because I was using cd to run decomp, you
don't need to.
You basically export the root of the decomp to a text file on the source OS and then import
it up onto your new OS.
I reviewed by that top and it was all set up.
I reached the conference guide to this, on my blog.
Defining each step, the last thing I wanted to talk about is time shift, which is a backup
tool.
I'll go into more details about my plan to back get my laptop in the future.
What I wanted to do is help with your reddit against a bad update, time shift is installed
by default in the X-Men by default, it's not used to back up your home directory, but
it can be used to back up the root directory.
So if sometimes you can use it to help, you will get restored and get your system working
up again.
I can forget to back up back up to the partition I created earlier, and I can forget
it to back up one to day.
I haven't tried restoring from it yet as a system failure, but I have tested it to restore
file from the back up and that works.
