Hello, this is a hook up for Hacker Public Radio. Welcome me to another exciting episode,
and this one is coming to you from the Reserve Q. So you know what that means. That
means you need to record a show. Hacker Public Radio is a collective, and basically
it's a community project that relies on members of the community to record and submit shows
if it's going to continue in operation. I'd like it to continue in operation. I assume
if you're listening to this, you would like it to continue in operation. So you know, let's
get going there and record some shows, people. Now I'm going to continue what I have been
doing for the Reserve Q. And this is looking at the YouTube channel subscriptions I have as
of January 2025, which is when I'm recording this. When you're hearing it, I don't know. If
we're really lucky, you're not hearing it until 2027, but I don't know if we're going
to be that lucky. Many of that, let's pick up where we left off. And the first channel
I'm going to go to this time is called Sid Meyers Civilization, and it is the official
Sid Meyers Civilization YouTube channel. Now I happen to know that in an earlier episode,
I had mentioned another channel and said it was the official one. I lied. Really sorry
about that. I got confused because it said something like Sid Meyers Civilization. It sounded
like the official channel. I went back and looked and really what it was is occasionally
YouTube will create a sort of a virtual channel that will collect videos from different people
because they're on the same topic. And so it's a topic channel. And so the one that I thought
was the official channel was not. It was a YouTube-created virtual channel. And there's a few
of those that are somehow in my subscription list. I don't know if I subscribed to them or
if they just automatically get added to my list by YouTube. It's not like I spend hours and
hours on managing subscriptions. It's just something I do for fun. Anyway, the official
Sid Meyers Civilization channel, as you might expect, has a lot of stuff from the for
access, which is the company that makes civilization now. And currently, as I'm recording
this, the big thing is Civ 7, which is coming out in February of 2025. And so we're getting
a lot of videos having to do with the upcoming game release. Some of them are short little
videos introducing some of the players that you can play in the game, Ben Franklin, Harriet
Tubbin, Machiavelli. Others are longer videos in which the developers go online and go
through playing an aspect of the game, describing something about what they intended to do
with it. And those can last easily an hour and a half in length. Now, the next one is
60 symbols. And this is another one of Brady Heron's channels. And this is videos about physics
and astronomy. And I'm big on physics and astronomy. That's something I have an interest in.
So I enjoy these videos. The typical video here is anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. Occasionally
longer. I've seen half hour ones. It doesn't really go much past that. And a number of them are
fairly short. So 60 symbols if you're into that. Now, what Brady Heron has done here is he has
gotten involved with nottingham University in England. And so he has a number of these channels
that he works with faculty from the university to put the stuff together. So the astronomers
and physicists that you'd see on this channel are pretty much from the University of Nottingham.
Next channel is Sophie Alloway. Sophie Alloway is a drummer. She's a member of Lidian Collective
and I mentioned the Lidian Collective channel and that they're a group in England that I really like a lot.
And so Sophie has her own channel that deals with her drumming. And I happen to like the way she
drums. So how would I describe it? It's more like, you know, there are some drummers that are
out to convince you that they are absolute masters of technique and can drum 4,000 beats per second
and everything else. That's not what Sophie does. She does tasteful drumming that fits the music
and I appreciate that sort of thing. Then there's space rocket history.
Now space rocket history goes along with a podcast. So you could just get this as an audio podcast
or you could watch it or listen to it really on YouTube. I don't think there's really any video involved.
It's interesting. The fellow who does this started years ago
with some of the historical stuff. You know, talking about people like Robert Goddard and
Seal Kofsky and all of the early pioneers in rockets and getting into the space race with, you know,
the Russians sending up split neck and the United States responding with their space program.
And it's an ongoing historical thing. He's taking things in order of how they happened.
So he's finished all, he's got through all of the Apollo missions.
Space lab. It's now working on Apollo Soyuz and, you know, at some point, I assume if he has the strength
to keep going, he's done almost 300 of these already. I suppose if he keeps going, he'll get to the
space shuttle and it's interesting because he covers in the historical thing. He covers both
the Soviet and the American. I assume if he gets closer to contemporary times, we're going to start
hearing maybe about Ariana and the European Space Agency and India and China who are
Japan, all of whom have active space programs now, but right now it's back in the 1970s.
The next channel is Stam Fine. He reviews movies and TV and among the things he reviews are
Dr. Ho. And so I'm mostly subscribed for that, but it's occasionally, I might take a glance at some of
the others. He's done some Star Trek and other movies like some James Bond.
And the next channel is Stubagful, which is an odd name, but he's an odd person. I think his name
is Stuart, so that's where the Stu comes from. And he also does talks about TV shows and
uploads them. And among those TV shows is Dr. Ho and that was my primary interest. He does other things.
I'm not sure any of them are ones that I've gotten particularly interested in. But Dr. Ho is
enough. Next one is Swini. Now, Swini, I hope I'm pronouncing this right.
Because I think it's an Irish name. And the way it is spelled here is Swi, BH and E.
And what this channel does is an animated history of videos. Now a number of them are
20-minute long or longer. Some of them can even go up as long as an hour, but
most of them are more 15-20-minute length. And I love history, so that's all the more reason.
Then there's talk more talk. Talk more talk is a solo Beatles video cast. And one of the people
involved in there is Ken Michaels. And I mentioned the Ken Michaels radio is being one of my channels.
Another person is Joe Mayo, and I mentioned the mean Mr. Mayo. Tom Hanyati from the two-leg
spot guest is another one of these people. And you know, solo Beatles means they're talking about
stuff that happened after the Beatles broke up as a group. And as you may know, all four of the
Beatles went on to have a very successful solo careers. So that's really what they talk about.
And there is the Tadeski Trucks Band, Susan Tadeski and Derek Trucks. They're married couple.
And they have this band. And it is, I don't know, sort of a combination of mixture of
all-man brothers, grateful dead. You know, hard to describe, but they're a really good band.
And this is their official channel and they put out videos. And many of them are really short.
But I remember during COVID, they were actually putting out full concerts on this channel. And the way
they did it was they were asking you to donate money to, I don't remember now precisely what
organizations, but organizations that were trying to deal with the COVID pandemic.
So, you know, it was a good thing for them to do. I really like the band.
So this is their channel. The next one I have is called the Ark. Now, where I live in the
vicinity of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Ark is the home of live folk music, traditional music,
contemporary stuff. It's a wonderful place. The facility has, I think, about 400 seats.
And it's pretty difficult to not be close to the stage. You know, I think the worst seat there
is probably 50 feet from the stage. So, you get up close and personal. And they will put out concerts
on this. And that's the main thing. So, Lath al-Sadi is one of the people that they did recently.
You might know him from some of those America's got talent or something like that. But, you know,
he was a very well-received guitarist. And he's local here. So, they did a concert of his. And that
was like almost three hours. The next channel is the Beatles. And this is the official YouTube
channel of the Beatles. And obviously, I'm a big fan of the Beatles. So, this is mostly going to be
short things. Announcements or short videos like there was one about the cutting process for
they just did a box set of the 1964 U.S. albums of the Beatles. And so, they talked about what
the cutting process was like for that. So, I think that's probably enough for this particular
