Hello and welcome to episode number 6 of the beer garden so you may think yeah we have that familiar
face back or you may think oh no not him again but the bad news dash could use is I'm
back I've recovered but unfortunately that also means we've lost a poll G but we are still joined by Dave
how are you Dave I am very well thank you well that's a I'm just getting over a cold or a
virus or something but you don't want to hear about that well in that case then we have got the absolute
perfect medicine will be for you tonight because in fact this was actually meant to be my choice
but local limitations for you which sounds very odd that's not my problem local limitations for
you mean we're delaying that one but instead we're looking at another fine this could be the first
of our cities of winter ails you know can have very timingly winter we're not going to go into
each individual one just now but we're starting with imperial state which I do believe is one of your
favorites you are not wrong I think I may have revealed this on the first episode of the beer garden
when we were going through and saying what is your favourite beer style and imperial was absolutely
mine people listening to that episode probably came out way from that episode thinking guys I can
that's a peed but no that is that is not what you want to point is that not what we're doing
this show well yes that's not the reason why I like imperial styles which I will definitely
go on to as we explore this variety the style a little bit later um let's just have a quick
exploration is to what an imperial style actually is I have my own opinions but apparently
opinion of fact do not align so imperial if imperial stout actually originated in London for exports to
Russia there was a brewery back in the 18th century called Thrails Anker which I've never heard of
I'm assuming they don't exist anymore they created this style called imperial stout or otherwise
known as a Russian imperial stout and it was brood for export to Catherine the Great of Russia
in 1781 so obviously this was created prior to that the Thrails Anker brewery changed hands
and the beer became Barclay Perkins imperial brown stout that is actually the same family as
you owns Barclay's bank ah biganims big money that is interesting so Barclay's bank started off
as a brewery yeah so it was originally shipped out to Russia by somebody by the name
of Albert von Lecoc who was a Prussian German brewery owner who then became an archaeologist
who knew but the beer that was shipped out this Barclay Perkins imperial brown stout was then
awarded a Russian royal warrant which is where he then became entitled to use the name imperial
and that's where the name come from and analysis of the beer from between the middle of the 19th
and the middle of the 20th century showed that the beer had typically an alcohol content of
a roundabout 10% ABV and during that entire period the ABV didn't really change
Barclay's brew was then taken over in 1955 by the Courage brewery when it was renamed
obviously Courage imperial Russian stout but it wasn't a regular brew it's kind of a sporadic
brew they would do it every so often but the cap on the bottle still said Barclays so obviously
the name has carried through since then imperial stout was also produced in Canada in a
place called Prince Albert in Saskatchewan by somebody by the name of Fritz Sick now I hope that wasn't
as a result of drinking the beer but so whatever but then in Canada it was then taken over by the
Molson brewery in 1958 and in Denmark the weebro brewery launched an imperial stout in 1930
at 8.2% now remember that because we're gonna have a very brief conversation about where we think
the definition of imperial stout actually starts but the first brewery in the US to brew
an imperial stout was the Yakima brewing company which I think was based in Yakima Washington
in 1982 it first opened so Kevin what would you say would be like the minimum standard the
minimum ABV for something you would consider as an imperial stout oh partially I would say 8
I don't think anything lower than 8 as far as the sky's the limit or I mean I've seen them
really high yes I mean yeah things I identified as imperial I think I've seen 15 16
yeah that's what I was thinking about I think I was thinking about 15 to 17 this is how strong
I've seen yeah there are beers that have a higher ABV by which time you don't really care what it's
called anyway but according to the research that I've done apparently imperial stout's typically
started about 9% which is fair enough some of your smith brewery actually brewed a version of
imperial stout for export to the 90 states and the early 1980s and apparently imperial stout
is one of the most popular beer styles with US craft brewers that doesn't surprise me but there you go
yeah but in America they often include additional ingredients such as vanilla chili maple syrup
and of course marshmallows I would say is a regular inspiration for some see I think now we're
kind of getting into the desert stout yeah exactly imperial also is not limited to to stouts of course
even though the origin of the of the word imperial comes from the court of Russia imperial this
has now become to be known as something that is strong of over eight or nine percent because you
can get imperial IPA you can get imperial pills and I'm sure I've seen imperial portus as well
but I know we have this determined previously that there's not really that much in
difference between a porter and a stout it's really interesting given the kebby you said that
anything over eight percent or sorry an imperial stout can be eight percent or more when I went
out to bunny the beard I'm having tonight I also picked up a couple of other lovely strong ones as
well and I've got this one from northern monk called even small death remember I mentioned
marshmallows earlier on yes you've had it before over you no no I I've never heard of them
to last night when a certain person near beer chat posted but I've never seen it on the website
oddly enough I want this is so much exclusive it must be it must be what I like like this one is
as well at the moment yeah yeah it's not going but yeah this some northern monk one
marshmallow and biscuit imperial stout at eight point four percent now eight point four percent
of course as both kebby and I know without looking is also the ABV of northern month monks
bertha but that is a stout not an imperial stout by their labeling I should say I would argue
it probably is an imperial stout based on its strength alone so I was trying to find out weather
imperial stouts actually had their own technique that made them unique from other normal stouts
that were over eight or nine percent I wasn't able to find anything out so I don't know whether
imperial is just given to the strength or whether it is to do with a particular style or mechanism
through brewing as I said before imperial stouts for me is the experience of them the flavor is very
much often sweeter it's very much often a thicker chewy more viscous mouth feel for a stout
and it is also something that I often make huge mistakes with so I do enjoy a beer festival
as I'm sure a lot of our listeners will do as I'm sure you do as well and I always go to a
beer festival with the phrase I will start low and work my way up but I would say in excess of
probably 75 percent of the beer festivals I've been to I've gone and looked around and thought
okay well this is probably a start low it's going to find myself in like a nice session IPA or
something a little bit on the lower maybe appeals nor something just to start with and I'll go
around again oh 13 percent that looks nice I'll take a third of that please and I start
with the imperial stouts and it is not a great thing to do because unfortunately if you have the
appreciation of the flavor and the taste and the style and the feel of an imperial stout everything
from that point onwards is down oh yeah it's funny and you can I mean how I'm assuming you've
had an instant gun beers I have had an instant gun but it's fairly flavorful yeah I remember
my mate gave me a nerd brewing we split up a little between us which was actually quite nice
it was 13 percent splitting the 330 balls it was actually just nice and then he poured on this
and gun and you know there was no flavor of it whatsoever I couldn't get in there I'm like this
is bland there's like water but yet I know this is a flavorful beer it chose you how deadly
can be to start without very strong yes yes but it's not it's not just the strength of it though
no it's not just the strength of it it's it's the flavor and well and that's just natural then
it's so eager you get the bolder flavor that you're paladin just to that and then in the other
schools yeah you know to be honest for our day-to-day comparison it's a bit like us growing up
of a certain age everybody took two two sugars in their tea and coffee growing it was just part of it
and then when you started kind of reducing the sugar when you eventually cut out the sugar and
somebody gave you some with two sugars like oh that's far too sweet you know the taste buds do
you just yes yeah sorry just before we actually go on there was and you do something I had read
and this is we going back to my my bestie for all beer researches this Roger Proads
hmm he now this talk with the the balcly imperial stout they started shipping them from London
to Danzig and then into the Baltic on route to Russia the voyage was hazardous during the
depolyonic wars as they was a blockade and the Baltic ports and spite of these difficulties
supplies did get through and it became a culture in the court of the search cases were sent to
Russian fighting troops in the Crimea in order to cope with demand barkless agent in the region
a Belgian called the cock built a brewery in Tartou Estonia and they moved their imperial
stout brewing to the air oh that makes a lot of sense yes so they I knew I'd read it somewhere
it was when you had said it and I was like I know that name I can't reparate it but they
it was enough my other beer not my beer Bible that one's called the taste of beer
okay excellent the word imperial was intended to signal the recipient of the state
but it had an undisguised double meaning these stouts gorgeous huge aged beers were not
only fit for royalty they became royalty themselves long after the association with the SARS
lapse the word imperial came to donate the beer status other beers I love this tried to co-op this
meaning imperial IPAs are in regular rotation yeah but I've also seen imperial prisoners to imperial
heffir vices never seen that imperial heffir vices yep that's according to this book
the best I look for yet in their power authority imperial stout are the only ones to maintain
their status as the king of beers I like that excellent right well I think it's probably time
to crack these open that so what I've got here this is a really odd shaped can actually it's a
330 but it's tall I was actually good to see is it a vault city one because every
18 years that I've had on deserves to have had from vault city has been that like yeah for for the
benefit of the listeners it's like when you go to the continent and you buy a can of sprite or cook
or something they never had in the dumpy cans we have to tall ones yeah yeah exactly that
it was alongside a number of other really strong hails and it just it looked almost like kind of
lonely studs sat there because it was both slightly shorter and slightly thinner than normal
size 440 mil can and I took pity on it and then looked at it and thought oh I love that so it is
the vault city brewery it's an imperial stout arguably probably getting towards the dessert stout
by puny by name I'll let you know how it tastes when I crack it open but it's a toffee nut
latte now anybody who knows me I do enjoy my coffee as well so toffee and coffee and on an
imperial stout it ticks a lot of boxes it comes in at 11% and this is where I need to get my glasses on
because I've made them a steak and not being fully prepared for this let's have a look at the label
decadent silky and nutty full-bodied seasonal stout showcasing layers of chocolate,
molten oats, smooth toffee and creamy vanilla for a velvety mouthful and a rich nutty finish
that's a big expectation that it's just set for itself and of course false it is um
isn't it gone if I'm mistaken anybody yeah nice so I'm gonna crack this open I'll go to pour it into my
pile of Harris brewery class because if you listen to the last episode where we Paul and I went through
and discussed half a license in a bit more detail you'll know the story of how this mark two
glass came about so here we go this cracker zone oh that sounded nice oh okay so that aroma is quite
quite astounding so here's the oh so if they're in here so you can hear it oh
that Paul's very very smoothly what if I something to do with the size the design of the can
so it didn't kind of bubble out yes just poured so there it is it is absolutely pitch black there's
next to no foam on it a little ringer foam around the outside and it is slightly carbonated
so it is um it is fizzing a little bit and just by swirling it slightly I can't spell it too much
otherwise it'll then pull over my keyboard um it doesn't actually appear to be as as viscous
as I would have expected it to be at 11 percent but I'm gonna stop admiring it I'm gonna try it so here we
go wow that is extraordinary it really is that's a say it looks quite fluid in the glass but actually
it feels really really nice it is smooth it is viscous it has a marginally seripy feel to it
taste wise it is very sweet you're getting everything that it promised so you're getting the
top where you're getting the coffee you're getting the nut as far as the beer itself is concerned
yes you do know you're drinking an imperial stout with this there's no question about that whatsoever
but the obvious characteristics of a stout as in the bitterness the smokiness
none of that comes through probably because it's been completely wiped out by the
disweetness and the intensity of the flavours that are coming through from it and it hangs around for a bit
as well which is really nice that is quite amazing I would be inclined to go to go and get some more of those
actually one thing I will say those you who are fans of all city will know that they made their
name based on service there are server companies that they produce servers so if you like it go
get some because they're short-lived their states I think there's a bit of an irony here you've
gone for a Scottish brewing company you've gone for an English one this company is based in the
leads and it's called Tartara Spears now I can't remember I do apologize if you were the one who
sent to me but I can't remember who on Master Don said try these beers I'm guessing not because
I hadn't heard of them and bearing them on the leads is about 50 miles in my mouth that's what
I was thinking that's what I was quite surprised now I will say be warned if you decide this is
definitely I kind of a lug shitty beer I think I paid about 60 or pound for 96 cans that was
including delivery but yeah everything they had was very high ABV but also price to match so I have this
one I have it is so do I it's the Magical Rain this one is also on the dessert side coconut pistachio
and chocolate and pideal stout at a 12.2% blast so one thing it is probably worth noting is that
pideal stout generally come into styles that either come more dessert like which is what we
generally quite like or they'll do what I don't particularly like and they'll do battle ageing
which the reason I don't like it is because it tends to just dominate I've got like a it just
reminds me of having a stout where somebody has poured in like a brandy or something into it and
it's like it's just too strong it's like it's over time and it's the beer that's my tastes you very
rarely get one that's not either one we are to others so right in shoot right
oh that's fizzy of them my one yeah there's a wee bit of a head no it didn't say in the book
the beer bible that they actually recommended because they were trying to go for the higher quality
that they recommended drinking at a brandy glass so instead I've got my snifter glass which is an
oversized brandy glass okay but as you can see there's no head on that whatever no that's a
full moon candle in that grace of poor oh she weighs oh my lord that is boozy
this if you've ever had no brains imperial stout that's what this reminds me of
very very strong this chocolate this is just on the nose right this is on the nose just on the
nose the chocolate I'm not getting any of the pistachio or coconut though not on the nose
on those it's boozy and it's chocolate oh that's good now I'm getting coconut but not don't
think I hit a bit like a bounty it's just more like a hint of coconut there's coconut there's
a nuttyness would I see pistachio I don't think it's just think to not be pistachio it's nutty
but chocolate not as boozy as the smell nowhere near as boozy as the smell sweet yeah yeah and
literally you could you could have that one I for fuck that is thick oh that that's that's my kind
of smell to really yes in fact don't know how well you're seeing it there that's really
less in quite thickly the side of the glass yeah yeah that is nice yeah I'd recommend that
I might have to try and well the challenge we that I had certainly is where we are we have a
large a number of large supermarkets certainly like the big four here in the UK we have a large
one of near us and I went to two of them earlier on today in search of something that would
fit the profile of what it is we were reviewing tonight and what I walked away with was pretty
much everything they had in the Imperial Stout section well they're isn't a section they're just
dumping anywhere in the end of it I thought I managed to find these by looking at the price of them
oh man and that my I've only got one worry about this it is so thick it is so so thick
I read yoga struggle they are shared that yeah between us and it's only a three thirty can there's
and if you see there's in five hundred please don't be tempted it is you would not finish that I don't
buy a can sailor gives mouth yes what audience it or something buy something or buy or if you've
got a growler poor than the growler well obviously clean it first hopefully actually to be honest
I'm surprised how nice it is because on the nose I was fully expecting this to be tasting
barrel aged it was so strong and boozy on nose and it's not it's so so sweet very rich yeah like I said
if you taste the nerd brewing Imperial Stout that's what it's like that's what reminds me of
right I will definitely have a look at that brewery
to say it's not one I'd heard of before and the fact that they're locally they're local
I may be able to get some from some of the off licenses or something locally so I'll have a look
for those I mean the process is trying to do this episode what I did in the last one which was
to call one of the kids in and to a live off camera tasting I pulled Ethan in last time for him to
try the shop on ho offer the fruit juice if you're not a fan of strong but if you're a
lagger drinker forget it you're not even gonna appreciate that at all you spit it out I think it's also
it's worth noting though if you're gonna have a few beers don't have this one first because
everything else is gonna take pretty blind yes definitely I'm gonna take my time with it that's a
danger though it's sort of sweet and I think you've probably found the same thing it's actually
silky smooth that's dangerous it's very very thick to be chuggle but you could easily drink it
quickly I know exactly what you mean but before we go on to what you were gonna say
towards the end just wanted to revisit the the vault city story that I mentioned
Caroline and I went to the theatre in Sheffield and we went in by public transport because we knew
that we could either pop for a drink before or after the performance I went to the head of steam
which if you're familiar with the Sheffield you've got the crucible and the lyceum
crucible where the sneaker is done and the lyceum almost like opposite each other and then at the
confluence of where the exit of the lyceum and the exit for the crucible is is the head of steam
huge pub loads and loads of proper ails and I can't remember what I had before this
but I said can I try this one it was some kind of IPA and he said yeah yes no problem he just
pulled me some out yeah I'll have a bite of that thank you and then he said don't try this one
and he he pulled it like it's just a tiny amount like a symbol full of this thing out and it
looked like a strawberry yogurt as in it was opaque it was quite a dark almost like a mucky pink
and I'm like oh what's this and I'm like oh my word what is this and apparently
vault city do a range called stupid and the stupid range are all pretty much the same kind of thing
very thick very chewy very viscous not to be alike beers because as you said vault city are
very much known for their hours and they're also celebrating I think it's 70 years since they formed
and I'll just read you what I wrote whilst I was a few beers down the line
it's called the white chocolate raspberry cherry that's a lot of very very strong influences
there and I said oh man this is like a raspberry smoothie out of the gorgeous thick and creamy
with a sharp and tangy flavour with a little more of a hint of acidity it pulls like a drinking
yogurt with a dry feeling in the aftertaste divine and what's it a sour it was supposed to be yes
but I think it was a sour that was sweet enough to take a lot of the back of the jaw
sourness if you're not a mucky out of it so it was very much like you were drinking a smoothie
and I think if somebody if you're given that to somebody without telling them what it was
and this is a 6% brew they may not have known that's how strongly it was
amazing yes just thought I'd share that no just thinking before we actually move on I think we're
bare score of these good grief now this is going to be difficult well I very rarely give five
and that's the way our proper beer drink or should score it should there should be if if you
score everything five then head you know what you genuinely like you know I've see I see plenty
people do this on untapped and it's like everything they have's a five and you're like see the
yes me no I work on the basis that if it's good if it's nice it's not offensive and
you know you're not turned off by it then I would that's a three just to be able to mind
though this is untapped was out of five we're talking here we tend to score in a 10 not sure
yeah so it's just some people think that oh yeah it's yeah it's got to be perfectly going to five
or heck you guys are harsh no so out of the out of 10 which is what we're doing these at
the moment oh hang on a second we are about to have a live on recording but off recording
he's just stuck his nose as loop by the way she's stuck his nose in the wind
that's a no loop look I'm surprised oh I think that was a no which I'm surprised at
because he usually likes the stronger ones oh right yeah I've lost a couple of cans in
Imperial sound to him I said do you want to try this one yeah I'll try it really nice do you want
it yeah okay no I was only being polite I didn't actually mean for you to have it seriously
then out of 10 I would score this a 10 mmm this this is up there it really is I don't think I
have it scored the bertha the five out of five so this is but I think I used to wear the
astonishing earlier um this is astonishing I'm actually struggling to score this one I'll tell you why
I am absolutely loving it but you can see how much I've still got left and I'm almost feeling
like it's enough I've had enough you know it is so so rich you can't let that influence your score
no I have to learn not to finish it I always consider drinkability right and I'm not saying it's
bad I'm not saying I'm going to tell you too much but my general rule is I mean I'll obviously
I'll check my own comments on untapped mm but one of my general rules is if I struggle with
the drinkability then generally I'll score it a bit of four still very good but I know then okay
right it's very good but it's not something you could take much of in saying that that's better
than a four on untapped so I'll go I'm gonna knock a point of it like I said you're almost
in a steak knife to go through this such a meal I'm gonna give this nine out of ten okay that is
better so nine out of ten it's very nice it's very sweet it's rich a boy it's flipping rich
but it's very very nice so I was gonna challenge you if you'd knocked it down to uh to an
eight hour ten purely on the basis that if the only issue you have with it is the fact that you
weren't able to finish it if it was served as a double shot or maybe a third of a pint yeah I think
you may finish this and bond for this yeah your opinion would have been better would have been different
I mean this is why I saw really good fives five has to be a combination of phenomenally
good flavour but also drinkable to the point where I don't want this drink to end
you get what I mean I do but that also suggests that you'll never score an imperial
status as if it was a five possibly but and seeing that nine out of ten I'd still see it's very
very good not to speak in that at all generally my ruling is if it's drinkable but I'm like
me but yeah all except I must admit I am actually going through it there's an absolutely
wheelchair where I would have another one so it's yeah it's a one and done it's treated like a
Christmas prudy but that's the best way to think of it you may think oh that's not much yeah it is
when you when you say you're one and done does that mean you would never have that one again
no no tight like if I'm not right you know we had touch on other one tonight did you happen
other one did you get one no hey are those prices I got one of each what if I didn't like it
no fair no no I would I can't have one yes but not for a few weeks
I'd delay it up it well I've got other five well the reason I've not actually tried any of them
is because they're all different styles and I thought that all styles we haven't covered
so I'm actually leaving some of them for that because there's some which I don't have any others
like they've got I got our Belgian style quadruple oh I'm saying I don't have any quadruples at all so
I'm like right I'm gonna leave that for the shoe and the I think that's triple as well so
you know things are got yeah remind me of the name of the brewery on that one sorry
uh the brewery is I think I'm gonna tell you I'll tell you how to tartar us or tartar us
I just think of tartar sauce tartar us us yeah tartar us beers
well day listeners we have actually completed out our biz
yeah yeah one is enough honestly one is definitely enough and now it's nap time
yes uh hand me my pipe and slippers yes and a co-coat yes
they're right there okay before I forget I did listen to the episode with Paul and
yourself obviously yeah I thoroughly enjoyed it now had I been on I'd it's funny I did actually
find the local one local off licenses now this I'm not talking about ab chains
a very localized one they do stuff from the crommarty brewery and they do jungle hijinks
and they have a heffirvesnt beer brood and crommarty which of course those you had no
the north of Scotland this is inside and we're nice so it's you they're thinking um
actually I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed it it's just got more flavor I had the urging our last
time and I found it to be a wee bit lacking I mean it was okay but I think I think I said it was
six out of ten or something this I would say is an easy eight out of ten so I thoroughly it's just
got more flavor it's got that yeah banana flavor clove e-flavor it's kind of linguri clove e-flavor
uh the one thing I would say if anybody wants to try a crommarty beer if you're interested
buy the stuff as soon as you can because crommarty undertorias for not doing regular beers they do
special runs and then advantages forever and you never get it again so yeah they've recently
released a few different ones and I couldn't eat that they're that exclusive I couldn't get them at
the shop the guy in the shop says to me we can't get that orange online so just yeah to double a
pre-warning actually very good delivery I think I ordered one day I was here the next so very that's
good very good service yeah so yeah good job actually in fact a poll jaded far too good at
job and the last one I was wondering you're going to replace me no I don't think anybody could replace
you they could succeed you they could not replace you um I I I have warned
poll that he it's going to come back at some point in the future because I'm sure you would you
but enjoy the service show with him I'm really gutted he wasn't but in all honesty I didn't
invite him because he was talking about he prefers to continent little style I was thinking
I don't think a period of time it's going to be his style at all probably not oh I'll be honest
I think you're probably right there yes indeed right do do we have anything else well talking of
feedback we have had quite a bit of feedback I'm just looking at the last to I'm just
concentrating on the last couple of episodes obviously we have the most recent one that's not
been released yet has it the one with all the time we're going to know it is not released until next
week and my browser's just crashed and wow why don't you not responding that's weird so
we have had some feedback on episode three which was the porters and that was Archie 72
saying I'm not a beard drinker gasp but this was an interesting history lesson in how
porters are made yes and actually if you're if you enjoy the history part of that then please
do listen for the next episode for the type that we're going because we're actually developing
on that history of porters so there's something for you excellent yes and we also had my word
we had a shedload of responses on the hefford one episode in yeah yeah so we do want we just
do want about so first one was by comment one by folkie hefford vice and is best smiley face no
winky smiley face coming from the northeastern part of Germany from the beginning that means
former GDR I believed I hit beer because we only had pilsner and lager styled
and they all aren't in my taste in any way just disgusting and repulsive bitter but then after
the reunification someone from the southern part of Germany introduced me to hefford vice and
wow beer can taste good herdinger is good but when somebody when you sometime get the chance you
should taste chauffeur hoffard that's what it was was it that was so good chauffeur hoffard
storks head all back at her storker becker or the dark variant of franzis scanner now
I've never seen that actually the only franzis scanner we get is that light one
right and don't believe they all come from the barrier two of those I named aren't from the home of
october fist hmm interesting yes so the second comment we have was actually from pole
who joined us on the last episode and he said great episode thanks Jen's great show some comments
franzis scanner is definitely a half a vice and beer did you chill them no you actually said it
right you said it right for me care visapuris he's not going to chill no I don't know
there should be drunk from the fridge or draft or this of chill great for a summer evening in the
beer garden in my opinion all German vice and beers of this type of heather vison based on my
experience in Germany my wife is German and comes from the south if you ask for a vison beer you will
get a heather heather's heather vison beer often you will get beer from a local brewery and not
from the big brewers that beer doesn't make it to the UK sadly there are actually three types
of heather vison dunkel which is the dark one heather's light which is what we both rank on
their episode and crystal which is and this is the heather's heather vison with the yeast and
wheat proteins proteins filtered out often drunk with a slice of lemon in the top I agree with
your comment about not mixing it I've had many great evenings treating those as a session beer

to Louis says sadly it's actually quite a positive statement because if you go into a bad here
and you just say give us a beer then chances are you're going to get a tenons or possibly

yes you must have done great episodes I can relate to thoroughly enjoyed this episode because
I'm familiar with Franz's scanard and Erdinger beers we have a store here in Miami floated
that called total wine which carries a wide range of alcoholic drinks as well as non-alcoholic
beverages for using an cocktails sorry I'm not familiar with that concept so you love to explain
that one not alcohol beverages yeah yeah total wine is my go to place for getting German beers
like Franz's scanard and Erdinger as well as a variety of warstiner beers to me warstiner
seems to be the most mass produced beer if I've no one actually heard of this one I don't think
maybe I'll see if I see the label but I can't think of it and the first one I've tried
of the German beers as it's the only one I've found in one of the supermarkets here usually the
total wine will carry a variety pack of warstiner that includes person or dunkel and brewers
gold which all of which are pretty good however I find Erdinger and Franz's scanard to taste
much better and you both nailed it on the head with Franz's scanard I've only had Erdinger
dunkel because I do like the darker beers and I find it to be my favourite of the two very eager
to try this Erdinger that was reviewed so I will be paying total wine a visit soon by the way
I chuckled when you poured the Erdinger and described it just from the sound and you what you will
get in but that is somebody who is definitely dedicated to the cause absolutely fantastic
comment number four was from again a him who said scottish bevarian IPW
was that a typo I don't know about three years ago I tasted a fine bottle of broodog
scottland versus Vyhens Stefan from Bavaria Indian Pale India Pale Vyzen that was a real
taste bomb wheat beer sweetness with hoppy bitterness a perfect collaboration so I guess that was not
typo it was IPW but right now then we had one from T.A. Spinner great episode I look forward
to more I thought this was good coverage of my current favourite style I too and constrained by
what I can find in America but sampled and loved both Erdinger and Franz's scanard while
living in Germany they may be mass produced but they are good I look forward to reviews of new
produced to explore mass produced doesn't inherently mean awful it really does depend because
if you they remind though he's from the U.S. which he's probably thinking about Budweiser
yeah so I get that I get that I guess in Scotland tenants would be the one I think of so yeah
yeah no that okay put the one and good point well made and I think one thing is I mean he's talking
I mean we're not focusing so much on the individual BS more the beer styles purely so that
people run the word can more chance of sampling rather than one specific beer yes absolutely awesome
