Hi everybody, my name is Ken Fallon and you're listening to another episode of Hacker Public
Radio. This is HBR 4546, the community news for December 2025 and joining me live from Scotland
is Kevi. Hi Kevi. Hello and a happy new year given this is the first episode for me of
2026 and also the first community news of 2026. Yes, so happy new year to everybody and
we hope that one of your new year's resolutions that is totally achievable is sending into a show
for HBR. No, I'm not happy with that one. I actually would rather the resolution to be
multiple shows to HBR. Very good, very good. So how was your yard listening? How was the
switching of the year? Yeah, I had a family time over the holidays but the weather took a turn for
the worst so we were down in the south of Scotland and we decided we were due to come back today
actually but because of the weather we decided we'll travel up on new year's eve which was not a
good idea. But the reason I'm saying it wasn't a good idea was it was just such a horrible day
uh but on ash on a boat that normally has I think it caters for about 250 vehicles there was less than
10. You know I mean that's one thing. Hogmanay nobody travels in Scotland it's up it's a session day
essentially. Exactly, exactly. How about you? How was your uh holiday season? It was fine uh very much
acting as a taxi service to to people but uh it was nice um we had uh Christmas with the uh some
of the families of two of the kids have moved out all three were away for new year's which was the
first time ever which was uh nice they were all with friends and stuff. Oh that is excellent so uh
I mean people tend to get Christmas presents of course on the 25th but you know we get them on a
daily basis here at uh HPR Towers because of course when you guys send in your show that is a present to
HPR. Oh that's that's so smooth really you should be doing this professionally. I would dearly love to
give up the teaching and do this professionally. My phone allowed. Um so for those of you don't know
first time here Hacker Public Radio's uh community podcast that releases shows every weekday Monday
through Friday and last year we passed our where did we start give me one second I'm just going to go
to the stats page which is on our syndication page and you can get a list of the HPR stats and if you go
there you'll see that we've been running for 20 years three months 14 days 10 hours. Now is that
including today with the techie or is that purely HPR? Uh that's today with the techie yeah as well
so which brings up another point that if we go to uh for 2026 so this year it is 2026 this year uh the HPR
episodes once it hits uh 4 700 which will be on Friday the 8th uh so on August the 7th this year
we will have hit 5 000 episodes of HPR 5 000 episodes of HPR that is of course if people continue to be
generous and send in shows so let's talk about HPR. HPR is a community podcast that releases
shows every weekday Monday through Friday the shows are sent in by people very much like you
in fact exactly like you and we've had some fantastic submissions this year we've had some fantastic
submissions from new hosts and hopefully there'll be a lot of people who will uh be wanting to send in
episodes and one of the things that i heard over on the community news was either people don't have
ideas in which case do your introductory episode and kevi and i and whoever else is listening in the
comments archer will definitely come up with a list of show topics that you can record and the other is
when you don't have time to do it remember that HPR is a community podcast so therefore the barrier to
entry is a lot lower not saying that you should send in crappy audio but if you're out for a walk
and that's the only time that you have to record a show better to record the show then than not have
a show recorded at all what do you think kevi absolutely absolutely please do get stuff in and
bear in mind as well it's something that even if it's something that you do on like a daily basis and
you think oh that's not interesting well it's to hackers yes probably is because it may be something you
do but something we don't know about at all and let's be honest as well if you have a smartphone
the term crappy audio really is out the window these days because the microphones they're using
now on just the basic microphone on the smartphones are way better than what we were having on the
computers 20 years ago and we're still recording then exactly and even then there's a lot that we
can do with the audio when we take it in we can send it to uh audiophonic and they use hashtag ai to
remove a lot of the background noise yes there'll be artifacts and whatever but no any show is better
than no show so try recording uh an episode on your daily whatever and any time that you do have an
opportunity to record the show try send try sending one in anyway enough about that i think let's move
on to what this show is about and this show is community news which is recorded by hosts like ourselves
usually on the uh friday the friday before the first monday of the month so if the hbr new show is
coming out on the first then we record it four days earlier if it's coming out on the seventh we'll record it
four days uh earlier than that and that is just give us time to process it and send it out and what
we like to do is uh go through all the shows and read the comments from the community that have been
submitted on that show and if there are no comments we'll give our own impressions of the show itself
so everybody gets some constructive feedback and positive feedback on their episodes and then we'll go
through the rest of the comments and we'll give you uh rundown on anything that's in the mailing list
and of course anything that's been happening in the background uh with regards to the uh ongoing
developments on the hbr community and project itself let's see okay yep and you know before anyone asks how
much do i get paid for this well as you've said many to time yourself ken feedback is the currency on which
we pay our hosts absolutely it is and um there was a great episode uh last month uh about how to
contribute to open source but uh and free libra software and that is the number one thing you can
do the next big thing that you can do aside from sending in a show yourself is get somebody else to send
in a show so uh we should be uh i was out on a walk the other day and and thinking about hbr as i do uh
and podcasting in general is going through waves now every man and his mother has a podcast and now is the
time for us to be sowing the seeds for when they there is a dial in the waves coming up where people are
dropping off their shows and not recording as much now is the time for us to be having people
come in onto hbr because we will continue if there's anything that has happened that we know
that has happened in the last 20 years we are consistent so let's and you can help with that by
encouraging other people to submit shows and yourself one show a year it's not that difficult
absolutely and plus like you see 20 years this isn't a fad you know i mean podcasting it's sadly
as much as i hate to say this for a lot of people has become a fashionable thing just now you know
like you say every man this dog has got one absolutely we're still going to be carrying on
with it even when the dog has been put to the kennel right so we did actually have quite a number of
shows in this past month uh one uh one a working day what i should say working weekday so maybe we
should actually get to having a look at we should we should start the first one was on december the
first which was the community news for november 2025 let's start with that one shall we were there
any comments keby now we are rich the pair of us we are rich why do i say that because uh this was
one of the better commented episodes we i think there was six or seven six it is and the first one
was by archer 72 silent key i heard again about the silent key and was reminded that an electronics
instructor of mine in a local college was a fan of the paddle key as a ham radio operator i'm wondering
and on a mission to find out if he is silent key or still alive
the graduating class was 30 years ago 1995 and he was and he also taught me to use the 8080 processor
assembler which the chip could only be rewritten after erasure from exposure to uv light and trey says

and a rll is american radio right let me just wikipedia that while you're uh while you're looking
up the while you read the next trey comment yes so trey went on to say actually i'm glad i got this one
tux jam cyd episode thank you kevy for a shout out concerning cyd you sent me on a quest to find and
listen to your podcast it took me a bit to figure out how to spell tux jam but i finally got it and
i'm listening nicely done and on the subject of spelling trust me i'm dyslexic i don't go for fancy
spelling quite often it's purely phonetical when it comes to the to any of my shows or anything i see
and a rll is american radio relay league which is the big amateur radio uh league in the world actually
and in america so uh the next one next comment was from candy canator 07 and thoughts decided to put my
response into one bc i didn't want to spam the comment let me know if that's not allowed and
stuff sorry what i'm surprised somebody recorded an eight hour show that seems way too long to keep
uh talking for sad face uh next point is i maybe will make an episode or two on my scripts though i'll
start one with task warrior which doesn't use x clip since from the manic follow-up is my first
episode this might have is next one peer tube is a cool concept but i only occasionally watch
videos on the anon slash stf instances so i don't have the experience to make an episode about it
next point agreed ai freaking sucks as both an artist and a coder and next you can't listen to regular
books lol yes you can somebody reads them out to you uh next one ladies happy birthday to archer it's also
uh candy canator's birthday in two days happy birthday uh and he posted that on my birthday
as well either the news list has been going to spam or i'm missing it because i completely forgot about
it i'll double check once i'm finished listening and re-tray thanks for the introduction to tux jam
i have another podcast to dump into g potter yeah i like that yeah another listener except for they
i i can't speed it up two times because it ruins the music yeah we have had that actual comment uh
before uh yeah probably you know me no no not just for you actually a few different people but uh yeah
i had one actually commented saying uh could we have one without the music at all and i'm good well
the point is tux jam so i would just be tux which would be mega building you know it would just
uh purely be another linux podcast no no that's fine i've i've found a way to get around it
yeah right so we have archer 72 responding with hello candy cane r07 i'm glad you are enjoying our
community and a happy belated birthday you mentioned sdf which i have an account on but rarely use i should
try it out again and on radio is good to hear on a road trip uh do you use an instance on matrix or
mastodon cheers archer 72 and for probably the seventh different pronunciation of candy canators
zero sevens hashtag we have the comment thoughts thanks for the happy birthday stf is fun but i keep
forgetting to check in on the com chat i actually just got a little handheld media player which i've
been loading with podcast episodes and i'm confused myself as to his last comment what's w yeah before i
say it out loud i'm going to go to uh urban dictionary and find out no didn't find anything there and it's
it's whiskey alpha foxtrot romeo november warn warfender yep i'm old and unhip yep i'm happily joining you
there i haven't a clue what that means it's when uh how old did that make you feel when i think it was
archer said 95 was 30 over 30 years ago and i'm thinking that doesn't sound right no no no no i know what
it is it's an answer to his questions so uh he was going do you use uh archer asked do you use an
instance of matrix or mastodon and he uses warfin which is w-a-f-r-n the social network that respects
you warfin is a federated social media inspired by tumblr that connects with both fediverse and blue sky
well now if that isn't an episode right there kevi explain to us old folk how that uh what this
new up-and-coming social network is license where it's hosted how you get an instance who do you
contact what's the community like etc etc etc exactly definitely actually given the the sheer size of
that comment forward i think that could be about two or three episodes you're not wrong you're not wrong
so moving on to the next day we had an interview with elspeth about sl shop and the hop event
and i'm sure uh lee is cutting and pasting these comments and sending them out immediately
this this is something i discovered that lee does uh after the community news episode so what we should
actually do is comment about elspeth like 15 times during the episode and then you'll have to cut the
whole thing up and send it well she's appeared a few times so we could certainly have a good few
comments but yeah i really actually enjoyed this listen to this one the i had never heard of this
thing that the shop and hop uh sounded really good i was actually surprised to i don't want to say
political but um actually i don't know any word of saying it but i was quite surprised when she was
speaking about how difficult it was to get in and then even when you got in getting a good pitch so
to speak or plot or whatever you want you know it was amazing actually listening to the experience
so it was kind of a shame to hear uh with someone like that you'd almost kind of want
to kind of get the you know the the new people having the best places and then those who were maybe
more established being a wee bit further down because people are more likely to go search for them
uh and or a constant rotation but it doesn't sound i suppose it's like anything in life it's
it's not what you know it's who you know so if you're a member in the committee or something you're
going to get prime pitch but it was really good i was really pleased to uh actually hear about this
because it's something i'd never heard of and it's to me i it all these episodes you know it's so
foreign to me the second life stuff and selling stuff online but if you compare it to something like
the ibc which is the big broadcasting thing all the main pitches in the huge halls are like the big
cisco's and the oracles and the uh big broadcaster people are i've got the main ones and then you have
the small little boots around the site so it does follow the convention of of a normal um you know
exhibition or so or a normal exhibition like that and even getting a spot at one of those exhibitions is
really really difficult so in one way it's quite similar and the other way i found it fascinating
to be honest yes actually that's what i maybe thought it wouldn't follow because it is uh virtual
you know online life was a kind of alternative life almost turned to world um that's what i thought
maybe that might actually have a place to change because like you say you know in reality big companies
always dominate and it basically until they're broke they'll continue to dominate uh candy canator
zero zero seven says peek into the community i think this is a really cool peek into the community
that while i've heard of it in the past thing i've never really looked into it until now the
interview was entertaining and clear that elzabeth is well integrated into the community and there's
lots of experience i think she is definitely adding a lot to uh a lot to our community as well
more people we have from with diverse backgrounds doing different things the better say i absolutely
and speaking of slightly different things the next day whiskey jack started his first episode on
nuclear reactor technology now i have to confess when i first heard of this i was thinking
oh i'm interested but i then i then i remember being taught about nuclear physics in school
rule and thinking please let him be nothing like my physics teacher because it would just send me to
sleep but thankfully not i've really enjoyed this so he goes over the basics so uh basic terminology etc
and talking about uh and actually i didn't even know this was a thing i have to admit in my ignorance
i didn't know there was uh civil grade uranium compared to military grade things like that
uh so yeah this was all really good so this was the very first in i think a series of eight yeah
eight episodes so this is one that i have actually with by the end of the month we've had i think three
i think were released and i've enjoyed every single one of them so i mean this is something where you
know you're probably saying oh this isn't of interest to hackers i only know about this well yeah this is
something i mean am i a nuclear technician no do i work in the power industry no but this really interested me
absolutely and uh i had to laugh uh i met the comment you know
hpr consists of uh nuclear reactor technology and beer garden stuff what could possibly go wrong
especially coming from whiskey jack so it's fine i'm thinking of that homer simpson episode
working at the nuclear reactor but uh this is no we should definitely try and get that and you can
whiskey jack on for a nuclear uh power episode combined with beer and caught just call it the homer simpson
episode very good uh there's been a lot of comments on this uh bjb says love this show and series
thank you i listened to the first episode in this series and it's super interesting thank you i'm
eagerly looking forward to the rest of the series and kevin o'brien just makes a comment saying looking
forward to more i think your plan is excellent and i'm eagerly awaiting the future installments
trey says looking forward to the series very well done many decades ago we learned about some
of this in college physics class we even had the opportunity to visit a research reactor at a local
university where we participated in the daily startup process observed uh krennikov radiation
firsthand and even experimented with the effects of certain type of radiation exposure on semiconductors
i am looking forward to the remaining episodes in this series excellent and it's nice about this just
another side note it's nice that he is approaching this from a non-political point of view and we've
had issues this year uh where i must say hand on my heart i'm very impressed with the hbr community
where uh our approach to something that is political has been very fact-based and calm and collective as a
community so it's good to see this coming through that we can discuss topics that some people might not
like but in a honest and open way yes absolutely absolutely and it's uh it is a sign of a mature
community as well because we're in a day where so many if you disagree with me you must be my enemy
no that's just total nonsense we're not all gonna agree uh but uh yeah so carrying on with his uh
with his experience with his movement away from uh ms based operating systems al was on the next day in
four five two four living the tux life episode three now for somebody just moving on to linux yeah this is
not something i would really recommend anybody trying unless they're seriously going hardcore
al automates his own install of linux mint and is using looks with all sorts of volume resize stuff
yeah great well this is kind of interesting because obviously he's you know when he says this is the
first time i'm moving to linux is a little bit like asterix beside it i know a lot of people now are
linux experts in work so they're spinning up kubernetes clusters they're putting pods here left
right and center they're doing uh dynamic network changes so they're using linux on a daily basis
all the time so they're very close very familiar with they like console commands but now they're coming
from that to running a desktop environment so i find i find that's why i'm finding this super fascinating
yeah totally uh for those you don't know al's also a co-host of tux jam so when he actually said oh
i'm going to do moving to linux as a cds we're all kind of is this is this april the first are you
serious we're all are all the links users and he was saying no i'm not a full-time one i was like what
like the the hints are here like when you look at it oh yeah i'll just run an ansible playbook to
install my distro of choice okay that that's a perfectly logical same thing for a new linux user
to do yeah but to be honest though i'm really glad to hear him recording this and again you know people
saying they don't have time they don't have uh they don't have specifics they don't have media
expertise these have all been kind of five minute long episodes they've not been overly long it's just
literally him going through what he's done and it's just basically a diary of himself and this is
great it's great for us to hear it and it's also great for him to look back thinking oh yeah that's
what i did back then and also uh just on that note this month uh because we've had the uh end of year
show and people have been talking and i've been talking to people in person listen don't let the fact
that you're that you're embarrassed about your voice or uh that your your your native language
isn't english don't let that stand in the way of sending in the show or that that you can't speak at
all um don't worry about that write the script send it to us and we have the option of uh doing the
text-to-speech on it uh which is very good nowadays or uh we have a whole team of volunteer narrators
who are more than happy to take your script and read it as a human just like you you would if you
could but you can't yeah and we're very very tolerant of uh of people who um who english isn't their
first language or have do we even have a show on uh about somebody with a speech impediment uh how they
sent in a podcast so this is a normal thing we do uh so don't let any of that stop you from sending
in the show you have something to say you've done something cool in your house and nobody gets it
send in the show absolutely now speaking of done something cool in the house uh i'm actually going
to let you take the next one because i think you may be better to speak with than i am so this was
a missing male merging thunderbird by a certain ken fallon no i don't know him no no yeah uh this one
i have to admit there's another reason for doing the hbr episode is cause every single year i need
to do a when it comes up to the community news things there's a lot of things that i need to do
in preparation for it and they're simple but i keep forgetting how to do it because year has passed
so this year i said right i'm going to document this so that i have it for next year and where's the
the best place to document it uh wrote a little md uh a quick write-up of the notes so that i remind
myself and then i thought hey you know this would make a good episode so it's basically if you have
a small mailing list you're now we're not talking about spamming people but i don't know your local
club or something and you need to send out an email to people and you don't want what their addresses on
the bc uh you want everybody's addresses on the bcc and stuff this is how you can do it with a little
tool in thunderbird where you don't have to sign up to somebody's third party site or whatever
it's just a low tier low barrier to entry in a really really simple way to do a a mail merge list
without having to go to huge extremes now i know we do change things for granted but why would you
want everybody to appear as bcc why not just put everybody and click from your own email address
all the email address in your address book because that would be a violation of the general data
protection action equivalent legal things that are legal uh laws that are in effect around the world
so to protect people's privacy and on the bcc field the address of the other people's addresses
are not listed so you yeah that's why
yes i know good episode actually and actually quite a handy thing because i have done this in
the past and of course was especially with something i don't use too often and i've had to go through
manually and add them all to bcc so this is probably something i'm going to use myself so uh it's something
i hadn't thought of to be perfectly honest so i'm like and the thing is what's embarrassing is i did
mail mergers in school yeah once upon a time i should have once you start talking about it i remembered it
and i was like oh dash but bear in mind that was a long time ago yeah i've done it via um uh i've done
it via like back in the day with microsoft access databases and you know for work and mail runs and
all sorts of things like that and then i've done it a libra office with mail merging for you know christmas
letters and printing off uh you know printing off um mail stickers you know address labels and stuff
like that so this is very similar but it's fierce low barry barrier to entry you put the addresses into
a csv file and you can maybe if you had like four different things that you're that you involved that
you have four different csv files and you just have this thing within thunderbird do you know what shocks me
is that's uh some guy on the internet didn't send in this episode being the thunderbird expert on the
on the uh network yes well you know i mean if you if you were here you know it would be good to hear
his response to that but uh we'll need to remember that question for next month absolutely so we have
the bofang and the str plus plus where lee tries transmitting and recording on vhf and uhf uh lee is
um got his um got his technician license which is uh the introduction license in the uk there are
three levels and other countries are just two and some there's just one um but on his way and i have
to say that he is even though i'm fully licensed he's moved far further on his journey than i am and
that's okay too now am i right in saying lee actually only got into ham radio from kind of
listening to your talk and talking to other users in last year's old camp i believe so yeah so there
you go that's uh that that is amazing actually given how relatively short a term that is when was that
last october that's a quarter of a year and he's got this more it's a year and a half uh it wasn't last
year we didn't have another camp last in 2025 it was in 2024. oh was that a year okay right time flies
i genuinely thought that was last october oh fair enough but good episode i really enjoyed it i
really enjoyed it not just also it did all my ham thing and i was thinking yeah i should do that i have
i have everything here necessary to do that so i should actually do that um trey also said
strs well done sir strs and strs for those not in the know are software defined radios it's
essentially what everything's happening on uh ham radio now for the most part uh strs have really
opened up parts of radio technology experimentation to the wider community i have noticed a significant
difference in performance and quality between inexpensive str dongles and higher-end devices like
the str duo which i prefer i've not tried the str plus plus software and regularly use str connect and
str angel continuing to experiment is the best way to learn and grow uh side note within the terms of
your license of course of course of course but great episode love this and i have this one bookmarked in my
brain for that mythological day when i get time to play with radios that said i have moved my radio
here to physically where i can touch it so i now have two physical radios next to me none of them are
plugged in none of them and they have an antenna but still it's a start it's a start there you go so
they've moved up the list of the things ken hasn't done that's good editing a new year that's good
you've got that few things checked so yeah that's good do you want to do the next one yes i was actually
this one made me chuckle just before i quite get to it it's purely because i had completely forgotten
about that episode that i had done uh on cd ripping and then uh lee actually who we just spoke of the
last episode he actually included it in the the recent anniversary episode and the then out of the blue
we have archer 72 with overly complicated media ripping setup so and for you he does this is
overly complicated from what i would actually remember from uh from ripping software so actually
he's dealing with something though that i've never used nat's blu-ray because i've once kind of dvds
and that went out my i never bothered actually replacing the optical drive when it damaged uh
actually that's a lie the internal one uh so i do have an external one but it's not blu-ray i've um
got some quite some movies and i sometimes i will just like a movie so much i want to get the dvd so that
there's no uh there's no basically i want to get hug father from terry pratchett which is an excellent
excellent uh two-part series and it's on dvd but the dvd is twice the price of the blu-ray whoa yeah
this had me interested like do i save the money and get the blu-ray but then you need some software
from somebody who requires a license and he may at some point in the future take the license away so
that that was the only thing about the blu-ray ripping that's had me a little bit concerned yes and
i do like the fact of uh from from this uh layout he's got here it does appear that he's actually
putting it onto uh a specific drive for move a specific drive for movies which is probably on a
home server now you may think why in this day and age would anybody want to rip a dvd or blu-ray or
anything well plain and simply if your internet goes down you've still got media to watch if you don't and
you rely purely on internet provided uh forms of entertainment if your internet's down you've got
no form of entertainment left and the views expressed on the show do not necessarily reflect those of my
employer which i'm mentally required to say in this case also um what i find is that if i have it locally
then i can use mpv as a media player uh and then i can adjust the brightness and saturation and the
sound and i can add subtitles to it and i have a lot more control over it than i do skipping forward and
using the arrow keys and then you the drm keys get messed up on the server and then there's you're forced
to use the ui of the uh whatever streaming platform and it's invariably crap except the ones that we
work on of course uh so uh well i i end up actually just having the dvd ripping it and then playing it
on the dvd rather than looking at it on the streaming media that's available to me which i also pay for
but yes absolutely now the next day we had henrik hemron in episode 4528 with photography software
now uh yeah so he goes through essentially what he uses so he talks about digicam
uh raw therapy gimp rapid photo downloader pics view scan entangle display cal and dark table a good
proportion of which i've used but i'm not that big into photography photo editing and media editing
things like that but uh he's gone a bit uh further in than i would go but yeah it's actually see again
this is something you know people say they don't have the expertise they don't have this sort of
that this is just plain simply what they use to do a certain task and like i said there's things here
i don't know about i didn't know about always good to share and a good episode i'm really enjoying
this series which is actually should be a series now in itself because he's chugging along producing
these and going through it systematically um and giving us a view into what he's using i've found it
all super interesting some of the software i just barely touched and more of it he has encouraged me to
have a deeper view in it and what i'd like to do is if henrik for a start can people who are into
photography please get engaged and start adding some comments to this gives him some encouragement
about these shows because they're absolutely excellent and i would like deep dives into every
single one of them not well i am asking i was going to say not asking you to do what a hookah did with
libreoffice but yes i am asking you to do what a hookah did for libreoffice on every one of these
tools i know that may be a bit much but for some of the simpler ones yeah that's a possibility but i
think henrik has a plan in his mind and is continuing to do that so please and please comments in there and
note to self to uh convert this to a uh photography series or better yet can people tell me if you're
interested in photography should we have a dedicated photography series on the network and just talking
about the series people um hosts themselves don't get to decide the series anymore um there was always
a rule where you need to have three episodes for it to be considered to be a series uh but my view on
the series is very similar to and my view this is the as an administrator as one of the janitors is um
is it should be a bit like uh a room at foster and what i mean by that is that it's not it shouldn't
be about specifically a single product um it should be about encouraging collaboration under a more of
an umbrella so they've had a desktop environments room where they've got kde and gnome and various
other different people in the same room talking about it equally they have um they no longer have
an amateur radio they just have a radio room where software-defined radio satellite broadcasts
everything to do with rf is in the one room um and uh social medias so they'll have matrix along
with mastodon along with the various different people in the same in the same development track
and that's how i feel we should have our series done of course we can be overruled by the community
but there is an element of the administration of the whole thing here and what makes logical sense
so for each series ideally it should have its own icon it should have its own blurb it should have a
basic description of what's going on and i we're definitely discouraging clothes series where somebody
has um say taking clattu's urban camping series which was a unique thing in its on itself where it was
something that he did um but it's unlikely anybody else is going to be adding to that series in the future so
that's where we were about series sorry for the tangent uh kevi i understand that

the next day we had the yoga a review of the yoga oh sorry were you finished with that
yep fine on uh the next day we had one laptop to rule them all but brian in ohio a yoga 370
and it was uh inspired by episode 4402 which i think was from me if i'm not mistaken which was the
which was the pine tab 2 episode by brian in ohio oh yeah it was episode 4491 was where uh we were
where and that was the interview with that was the interview that tibo uh and myself did with
david lavoy who was the pepper and carth author and he we were discussing the think pad which i have
here the yoga 370 and that inspired this mini series of shows and in this uh this is a show by
brand in ohio where he's putting slackware on and uh discussing the various different scripts and such
yeah this one was quite good they just got on about talking about again what he was doing to set
things up and am i remembering this right this is the one where the actual screen detached and became
like a tablet uh i think it falls around um at the back is that what it was yeah because he was
speaking about uh rotate and auto-rotating that i seem to remember that's the reason and i was just
i remember uh thinking it's one of those things that i i never get into uh for myself personally
i like a big computer i i like being able to upgrade it when i want so i'm actually always at this
to hear people's experience with laptops yes i have a laptop for when i'm traveling and things
but the fact is if you're a gamer and you want a laptop you you really do have to spend quite a lot
of money on it and then they become dashed heavy that was my other experience the one time i used a
gaming laptop it was physically like carrying the weight of a break around it was so dashed heavy
i should maybe look back into it but it is good to hear about yeah i mean people uh putting this i
like to spoke about i think was slack where he put on it uh speaking about as well the um
the software on there there for reading pdfs especially with ocular i think he used
uh yeah yeah it's absolutely great absolutely good it and i remember rightly did it used to be a
default nubuntu back in the day uh i thought i think kubuntu it was but i don't know it's a it seems like a
kd app to me all right because it definitely was in one of the ones that i i can't see anything i was
at his dropper for years but uh yeah that's what i came across it was in that and it was one of these
ones that i always actually used to put in uh yeah yeah i really like this one and it uh it was also
one that was enjoyed by paul jay who left the comment thanks great show hi brian thanks for the very
informative show i have and use three x 270 lenovo laptops and i am writing this on an x390
i have never considered a yoga version with a touch screen but may well do so in the future i also
appreciate the other information you have shared best wishes for the new year paul and the following
day uh was a hookah continuing his series on playing civilization five part six and he was
looking at game mechanics and civilization now i don't want to end up taking this away from you
are you sure you don't want to go with the in-depth one here uh this one i'll just give you the summary
from the show notes playing war and combat long and basically land combat naval combat air combat and
his conclusion that was a very brief introduction blah blah blah blah so i'll go get a coffee and
you can start waffling on about gaming yeah he was talking about the the different not just the the
the basic mechanics of what although he did he did touch on that but also talking about the different
forms i mean of course civilizations are developmental games so you know you start simple and you do
you keep on going as that you progress your technology so obviously the the first ones you do
are literally going to be ground combat and your weapons are going to be severely limited pretty much
to clubs and throwing stones essentially but as you develop the technologies you go through you can
you can obviously decide as well we spoke about the different forms although there's different uh
transportation let's say so you can have eventually you can develop into land vehicles you develop into
sea vehicles uh develop into air vehicles but you know he even was talking there about
very often there are some which they are purely uh the the combat is a secondary thing you know like
there was some uh vehicles uh some uh vessels he was talking about there and the sea vessels and
they were saying that they were more scout although they do have combat on them uh it was quite
interesting the fact that he said that you you can actually overcome a city from the sea if it's a port
city but he said he actually had the caveat as well i've never done it myself so usually with these kind
of games the things like air and naval are very much uh ranged attacks and then to actually conquer the cities
you would send in the troops but yeah it was really good uh like i said i must admit i've never played
the civilization games i've played free civ i've never played in the civilization games themselves so
for me as an outsider who's interested in gaming i'm loving the series and a series that i am loving
is the next day hpr beer garden six imperial stouts wow this is a fascinating history lesson i yeah i i love
the way you're doing this it's just uh of course it's you kevy and dave the load bug um where you're taking
some beers discussing it and um giving us a little bit of the history as well and i'm sure you wouldn't be
opposed to uh people doing non-alcoholic drinks on this somebody wanted to give a rundown of uh
of other non-alcoholic beverages feel free to do so absolutely and in fact we don't want this to be our show
at the end of the day uh we want this to be a community show so if anybody has even if people want to do
beers if they wanted to do that do their own talk on it it's entirely up to you i mean we've actually just
recorded one that's going to go into the reserve queue that's talking about what we do for making
an episode and what we would recommend but they don't have to they don't have to follow that exact
thing it's not an exact science so yeah i've been actually enjoying doing this because
the we're we're taking a style and we're just talking about the history of it because we probably
don't appreciate and it's funny because dave himself says he was very often one for saying
i don't like borders i don't like borders until we actually looked into them and did the history of
them and now he started to appreciate them himself he just they weren't what he thought to be honest
and i'm just finding this interesting i mean it was i was saying that in one of the recent episodes
if all homework was like this i would have probably stayed on and got my master's and doctorate
oh well there are no comments on that um this one but let's move on to the next show
yes and the next show was oh it was trace a cheap yellow display part five the graphical user interface
so him talking about really uh getting the cheap yellow display say i had a problem with this by the
the way the graphical interface setting it up when i was doing it uh check out the tuxim episode if
you want to actually hear my uh annoyances but uh yeah him talking about the generally how he had got
things set up how it was tested how it was getting the touchpad and everything and the the layout it's
not as easy as it sounds that's actually one thing i will say so i totally felt his pain when i was
listening to this i'm going this sounds very dashed familiar um i was um weirdly enough i was wondering
why uh i hadn't heard your episodes in a while and then i realized that my download script was doing
something to check for org files and because you were anyway as a reason i had a whole year's backlog of
shows uh from tux jam to listen to and i was moving so i was moving furniture from my house to my daughter's
house and i got to listen to tux jam back to back the whole way from from home the whole way up to her
house so that was excellent and then i realized that ye had done a series on the cheap yellow display
yeah prompted by um train's episode yeah yeah that's it and uh it was uh a tree actually mentioned
that in the the comments on last month's community news and it was really good actually trying but the
one thing i did find i'm going to say this as a caveat to anybody that wants to do this the first thing you
need to do and the absolute first thing is find out what exact cheap yellow display you have because i
i stupidly assumed i first went on and got mine oh the cheap yellow display they must all be the
same okay there's different size i'll have to check for that but they must all be the same part of
matt no no no no no no no no they're all flipping different there is no standardization on them and
it's really annoying it was your comment last month that uh made me realize hold on it was his
comment last month that made me realize hold on i haven't heard tux jam in a while why is that so
then i found the bug in my uh in my script glad you got that rectified i mean that's a christmas
a whole year's worth of tux jam well it was great because it started off with the the uh the christmas
uh the first episode of last year because i had the christmas list from 2024 so uh i had the first
episode and then it was like oh it's the weather is cold the weather is warm it's getting warm it's
wet it's flooding it's it's cold again it was nice but with this trace episode they uh the thing about
the the ui having to use a windows piece of proprietary software that sounds very sad to me
yeah now i didn't actually experience that i have to confess so i'd forgotten about that part
actually because yeah he was just saying he just couldn't get it running i don't have a windows
partition on this pc and there's never been one in fact on this pc so i couldn't do that suppose i
want to unless i was going to use it run up a virtual machine but i didn't have that my biggest issue was
trying to find stuff that actually worked for the specific cheap yellow display that i had and but even
then there's so many different drivers and things it ended up my biggest problem was i had the wrong
driver installed for the display module and that's what caused me norris just says uh starting small
this is a good tip for any new project i like to see success early so i tried to start with something
small just to see something working good motivation to keep going and a solid foundation to build on
actually that is very good advice that i need to give myself
uh with regard to this cheap yellow display i have loads of plans for them but i need to just take
one out and put the time on it and be happy and move on absolutely yes that's what i would highly
recommend highly recommend indeed now so the next day it was a continuation by whiskey jack on the nuclear
reactor technology and this one was specifically nuclear fuel so again something i did not know
about i mean i knew about the fact it's just yeah well i i sorry i knew about the episode yes but what
i mean is i knew about natural uranium and rich uranium and then he goes on to talk about all the rest i'm
like whoa did not know all that so and even you hear words like natural and enriched and he went on
to explain what it was and what you know i've heard a lot about thorium and how it's going to save
everything and he kind of went into here's what it is and then the pros and cons so that was nice sorry
did i cut you off no no you didn't it was just what i was saying no i think you mentioned it already i
love the fact he's not coming from this with either a pro or anti thing he's just factual and he says
you know he's giving the the both sides uh the the pros cons like i said this yeah we need more episodes
like this uh in the in the shows absolutely brilliant and it seems that bjb is also in agreement thank you
for an interesting series i'm really enjoying this series thank you oh sorry i'm greatly enjoying this
series thank you even better the following day we had claudio reviving my kawai k4 synthesizer and he
describes how he brings it to life after years of dormancy and nice links in the show notes and good
tips on what he did didn't know absolutely into synthesizers and stuff so there's an avenue for
the next time i'm talking to claudio that we can start bugging him about uh all series perhaps and
what they are how they work etc etc totally and i thoroughly enjoyed this and the one thing can i
give a bit of constructive criticism here it's not no it's not criticism just an encouragement here
is i listened to this in the car and i was really thinking oh i'm loving this and he talked about links
in the show notes and when i finished my journey i went on the website i was hoping to really hoping
to see some uh pictures etc can we recommend some pictures like some pictures and what i would like
to have heard was a audio uh just a recording of him playing something non-copyrighted that we could
add to the show notes absolutely yes you fixed it so you should prove to us that you fixed it
it's not i'm sure we can do that in the next follow-up episode yeah but uh no i don't want
to be too too mean there now that was a really good episode really interesting uh yeah i'm talking
about the different parts as well yeah and i mean they even if you're not into synthesizers or whatever
if you have an old piece of kit the methodology that he used for replacing it is applicable to you know
a tiny thing that approach it in the same way and the logical steps that you do yes indeed now we
didn't have any comments on that so moving on to the next day and al is back with us for living the
tux life episode four various software i've been using and yeah so he goes on course of course
everybody just installs prometheus yes and this is what i'm still laughing this is definitely not a
newbie's guide to linux i think it is it is a newbie's guide it really is and he's highlighting
something here that you know there are people who've got like a macbook and work or windows and
work and they're working on all these servers and their knowledge is fantastically good it's just
they don't use linux and i see that with the guys i work with them work and they're on servers the
whole day but they're on them via their macbook or or their windows box and they could and yes josh i'm
looking at you uh they they could very well be running linux on their home pc so that's good yeah
absolutely but actually i i i did uh have pity on him because he has touched on something that i think
every linux user has battled with when they use laptops battery to management it's it's just that's
one thing i've found it's probably the other thing that's probably put me off using a laptop for
uh extended periods my word just even with battery saver on it's i i i think the best that i got out of
either of my laptops uh was i'm bearing in mind one of them actually came with linux pre-installed
it was from judo computers here in the uk and it's still with battery saver and everything turned down
i can get three and a half hours out of it yeah the thing is though i've been using laptops for years
as my main computer and i've never had an issue with batteries but before you go on and around the
reason for that is i have like a one and a half hour commute and if something goes wrong it's a
three-hour commute and then i plug it in in work and then i have another commute going home and then
i plug it in at home so i i'm never away from a power cord so long that it's a problem yeah i totally
get it the i just like i said i totally uh actually i will say one thing al is doing something i mean he
also goes on yeah i love the fact he talks about deja duper things like that as well you know straight
away back up and yep good and the fox clone uh uh tmux is is the terminal he seems to use as well so
he's certainly not going for your uh off the shelf stuff that's real but this is exactly why i love
linux and it's or you know linux can do links and the whole ecosphere and freely open source software
is that you can you can play to your own strengths in it you don't need to if these are tools that
he's comfortable using that he's used before in his daily life why make it harder on yourself use
those tools feel comfortable and then add another app and then add another app and then you know you
visit yourself in two years time and you go oh i completely changed the way i work and now i know all
this other stuff and that's knowledge that's never going to be lost absolutely absolutely i mean there's
a whole show in here but that would be one thing i would say if anybody comes to me and recommends
they're wanting what's my recommendations for using linux actually the first thing i would say
to them is install this this this this on your windows slash mac machine whatever you've got yeah
and the thing is when you're actually getting familiar with the software it's not that big a jump
you know when you're when you've got i mean most people go oh i can't get my software
if you prep them it's not a big issue at all yeah exactly you already know how to drive it's just
you've gone from uh at that point you're going from a uh uh petrol car to an ev yeah well that's it
that's it so candy cane art oh sorry no go ahead you do it i was going to say so well a couple of
comments on this episode candy cane art at 07 cool setup i also have to use my laptop for my main
computer though it's nice to have the same exact setup at both home and when i'm not i will say
that tlp supports settings charge limits directly and i'd recommend setting it up there since it
persists after boot local scent looks interesting i'll check it out and tlp is a feature reach utility
for linux saving laptop battery power without the need to delve deeper into the technical details
doesn't tell me what tlp stands for though but um al did mention that in the show notes
and by the way i need to when i'm posting stuff about al i need to use capital letters so it's clear that
it's a l and not a i that is a true archer 72 says tmux hi al if you like tmux check out hpr
3845 using tmux it uses tmux resurrect to also save multiple session between reboots
nice one there absolutely yes and going on to the next day we had

this was really a kind of quite a comprehensive episode lasting about half an hour uh and he
goes on to speak about everything you would probably want for the basics of somebody moving over so he
talks about beginner friendly distros um helping the community pardon where to get help
where to get help yes the local communities he links to some mastodon uh foster done free geek
yep and softer alternatives actually i quite liked the way he had put that in and of course most
importantly the gaming section although i am disappointed by his lack of the heroic game launcher
that needs to be in that comment comment or an episode uh this one i personally uh archer said it
uh in the let's let's just read the comment here archer 72 says brilliant brilliant episodes hey ken is
the room in the about page to list this as a top episode archer 72 not only would i uh and i asked archer
to make a ticket for that on our git t instance where anybody can recommend pretty much anything if they
want related to the website but this is such a generic introduction that um it's it should be like a
link on every single linux destro that's out there every single um any linux thing anything to do with
free libra and open software this is the thing that you should listen to first absolutely yep it was
utterly excellent now so the next uh comment is by torren doyle delta ray did a fine job in covering
gnu linux aka linux here thank you delta ray for this concise coverage of linux you spoke very well
and i'll skip over my one where i just said basically what i already said delta ray said thanks thanks for

episodes right there like uh for example the wake on that what's waking on why would you use it uh magic
packets etc what are those uh how can you what are the benefits of using it what are the dangers of using
it what tools there are how you can install them what other alternatives are there there you go yep
definitely plenty of potential for new episodes there but another person who's relatively new although a
big part of the community almost in a short space of time is elspeth and she has put in elspeth in it
since 97 and this is part one the and actually i'm looking forward to hearing this because uh
this one was a 43 minute long episode where she talks about her uh she talks about her experience in
it and actually i took my take my hat off to her for this because she talked about some things that
you could tell even listening to her still upset her and she goes on about her history sorry say again
and i don't blame her for getting upset about them oh not at all no uh yeah so she's it talks about how
she's been in it uh i'm just talking about gender inequality that she's uh really had to put up with
being a female working in it for a long time and the generally as well just the amount of sexism
she's had to endure which is really sad to hear uh so yeah but it's it's it's not just a totally sad
episode it's really interesting the way she goes through uh everything and uh she was also i also found
it really quite sad and also interesting a bit sad uh overall the when she spoke about how these days
people who have been got the same or even less experience than her because back then there was
no real degree in computing or not many people had it and she says she's got more experience than many
but yet she struggles to get a job because uh now being a female if you don't have the degree they just
won't even look at you so yeah it was kind of sad to hear that but uh she's obviously a strong person
the fact she's still talking about this yeah well yeah it's uh it was a tough listen i have to say but
on the other hand i'm looking at it and i'm also saying it it was inspirational in a way that um that
she didn't have a degree yet she was able to learn all this stuff and knowledge and uh get herself up
to a point where she is capable of doing this and the fact that she is coming against these obstacles
with gender and neurodivergence is is unfortunate and i realize how lucky i have been um my first ig job
i the manager was a was a woman who was one of the best engineers i knew and one of the best managers
i knew and we had a more or less 50 50 team so it never entered my mind that the it sector wasn't
gender balanced or that there was any of this in quality inequality or sexism and that was the same
when i moved to another job uh in the netherlands and then i had one job where i was working for
a period of time i'm not going to say how long i was working there and it was like super macho and i
was going this is not a pleasant place to work and thankfully i am now working in a place where there's
a better gender equality and more diversity as well leads to a better team all in all so there you go
absolutely they actually i never think of this place where i live uh as being forward thinking
but uh when i think you're just gonna be thinking back in school i didn't know them well because
they're the it guys and not the teachers but uh but this is when i was a pupil there was always a mix of
male and female when i went to college here for one year the i was doing engineering and the computing
element was part of it now the computer side of it i think there was four manufacturers three women one
male yeah so actually i didn't see this but now come to think of it it was after i moved away
when i think about it you know the it has been 99.9 dominated by males so yeah this is actually
something it's worth bringing up yeah totally and uh i subscribe to the future feed and if you're
into in order to do the quality control and also to get the episodes earlier so i've listened to the
second part of this it's well worth a listen as well so the following day i did a show about hpr
branding why the intro is the way it is and it was part of i mean it was part of something that i had
wanted to be doing anyway which was move this explanation out to the git t instance and basically
the show notes of this is the git t instance so it's not that i had to do extra work for it
well i did have to do the extra work for it but it was on the to-do list anyway so now it's done
um basically going through and i think uh we had um nice wise mentioned about the intro and outro
before uh so i've been thinking about this episode that long back so it's not that big a jump to be
actually doing it um and in the show for those who didn't hear it it's breakdown of what the what
the intro is how long it is who who it's who who wrote it for us what tools we use to create it um
why why we're doing it who where what when and why basically and the outro same thing as well and also
links to discussions we've had about show notes and i realize now that i didn't put in um nightwise's

and he's going from the p to the ears this is uh a hookah put in a series of excellent shows about the
youtube channels that he listens to some of which i also listen to and some of which i go okay that's nice
not into uh cruising at the moment but when i do i know where to uh get my subscriptions
yeah absolutely so no it's it's good to actually hear uh this kind of thing uh sadly it does also
mean that we're lacking in shows when we do hear this kind of thing so it's a it's a kind of bittersweet
but it's also a good a good approach to the uh boston boom and i've felt that this year we really worked
on the um by using the reserve shows we're alerting the community that hey guys you know don't take
this for granted as prior to that we were sending out mails on the mailing list and then we only get
shows from people who are on the mailing list and not the community at large so when these shows go out
we deliberately put in there rather annoying uh could be pleasanter but it's kind of deliberately
annoying not really kind of um message in there that this is coming from the from the reserve queue
and that's what the reserve queue is there to fill the slots you know sometimes sometimes it happens
people are all busy um so if you have a show that's timeless you can put one in the reserve queue if
you have a show that you want on your birthday you can put it in the main queue easy peasy lemon squeezy
exactly yes indeed and i hope i didn't break the rules here because that was from the reserve queue
but this one the next day he had actually uh booked it as a normal slot so there you go that's another
benefit of adding to the reserve queue you might get to hear it yourself more than once every fortnight
so he did arthur c clark other novels part one uh i must admit i'm loving this series by
arthur c clark uh i've only read a couple of his books but i enjoyed them and i came back and re-read
one i think it's a city in the sky uh recently and of course uh i'm getting in trouble because
uh my wife's just asked what's this big box of books that's just arrived from arthur c clark
nothing dear ignore that you will ignore the box in the corner i i'm also uh downloaded some onto my
e-reader and i'm reading them but i haven't had time but it's i am reading like about half a chapter
every night so i will get to them but inspired by this series so thank you ahuka please keep keep
doing what you're doing absolutely yes please keep them coming really good and uh it actually
inspired me one thing i've never done is his last one on the 2001 series uh it inspired me to actually
i've watched the film i'm going to go back actually and read the whole thing when i actually get some
time uh well i've got to get through that box i bought there 2001 was not part of it but i'm going to
go back and read the 2001 series and while he's doing that he will also be doing beer garden seven
uk christmas ales i didn't even know this was a thing there you go so um it's well like i said it
in the show it kind of is and kind of isn't if you're a purist a christmas ale does not exist it's
just a certain type of ale that they've made christmasy but it has come into its own thing
and it's something i absolutely love and it's just they're different they're different enough to
have their own uh exactly their own style and yeah i really enjoyed this and it was good to actually
be joined by paul paul's now been on a couple so trying to get him back for another few but uh
we're going to see uh what happens in the future but yes so thoroughly enjoyed it uh yeah how did you
find this one i loved it i love this actually um aside from my only failing with every single one
of your episodes is i want the beer to be shipped to us you know your rss feed should deliver the
actual beer that you can so that you can play along and perhaps actually you know i was thinking maybe if
you could tell us what beers you're going to be reviewing in a few months time we could try and source
those beers to drink along as you're as you're uh doing the episode well now this is a secrecy here

and i'll just make a note to add those to the show right and while you're doing that
we had an episode from claudio m the next day or claudio miranda actually then i'm using some
masters on title there can haiku mumble so this was actually quite interesting if you don't know what
haiku is haiku is an alternative operating system it's not linux based it's different again uh or should
say unix based uh however it's it's been on it's been in development for quite a while but it's one
of these things it's never really gained a lot of traction so a lot of things like drivers etc and
software just hasn't been written for it uh it's one of these things it's on my to-do list uh i've never
tried it i have to confess but like i said it's a bit like the herd kernel it's on my to-do list
uh but he goes on about getting uh haiku uh well sorry getting haiku to use mumble and how
effectively and i don't want to spoil the entire episode but uh it just talks about his experience
there so yeah so that was just in time as well for any haiku users to listen to the new year show
or take part in the new year show and he uh he just got it in before the end of the year his promise
so he got his uh his new year's resolution sorted at the very last moment and then the last episode
of this month and of course the last episode of 2025 was the third in our series of nuclear reactor
technology and i realized that my irish accent may have made that sound like something a dog might produce
the third nuclear reactor basics and there were several comments from leandro says praise for
this series excellent series on nuclear technologies thanks for this educational educational opportunity
and kevin o'brien makes the next comment saying really enjoying the series i find i am looking
forward to each installment of the series well done yeah i enjoyed this one as well him speaking
not so much about the fuel as he did in the last one but this is talking about the basics of the
reactor and the the different types as well so yeah again thoroughly enjoyed this one now going back to
the um comments from um the previous episodes and this was on how i use newsboat and reddit so the first
comment was checking for ahmed uh to see if there are issues as i said this is about newsboat for podcasts and reddit
and what was my comment about there are extra checks when you upload a comment on an episode outside of the main feed
so the future feed or episode going to 10 blank slots and this was why was i putting that there uh
i don't know why i put that there per se but um oh yeah no there was yes so there was a issue with uh
so ahmed uh posts in the next one download format for hpr episodes hello i've set download format to
uh download dash file name dash format space quote percent t dot percent you quote which worked fine for
all podcasts except hpr where the extension is php instead of mp3 is there a method to have a special
download file name format for hpr podcasts and my post something went wrong in posting that and i went to
check and it's basically because there are anti-spam questions um there are three additional anti-spam
questions if you are not if you're posting on an episode that's outside of the main feed so if you're
if it's not in the last two weeks so if you're posting a comment on a future feed i'm a bit suspicious
because okay why are you posting on something that hasn't even been released and if you're posting on
really old shows or older shows um spammers love doing that because uh they'll post on the show
that has been very popular and it's got lots of comments and now the moderator's brain is just
click i approve click i approve click i approve and then you've got spam in there and then um they've won
so that's why i posted that cryptic question in there um and i will put a comment into this comment
to say that we have opened a bug on this issue and we have implemented a change that may or may not have
fixed this so ahmed can you please check to see if that works now and also this year will be a great year
to do a show so i could get the pronunciation of your name perfectly are you still with me yeah yeah
i was just actually waiting for your link no i'll uh i'm putting it into the email that i'm writing to
myself because previously i could just tell dave to do it actually i could should have told archer to do
it what am i thinking uh but i'm writing an email to myself with all the fixes so i've got one two
three four five six seven different things i need to fix after this episode as i'm reading
oh there's a link missing here there's this missing there there's something else so the next
the next comment and the last comment from previous was uh more hook commented on arthur c
clark sequels by our uh hookah and he made a comment and uh a hookah responded it was episode
four five two zero and programmer and content creator nice episode nice podcast episode i agree that arthur
c clark made a very good book on rendezvous with rama science fiction without a killer robot or even
aliens is so uncommon yeah that one was a good episode actually i'll give that um was that the
only two did we only have two from previous yeah and then kevin kevy responded to that glad you liked
it i'm glad you enjoyed it there is more to come from arthur c clark dr who robert a hindman and ee duck
smith so something to look forward to absolutely yes please do keep the comments coming as long
as you're not a spammer please keep them coming absolutely so that rounds off the comments that
rounds off the episodes and then let's have a look at the list and the only thing that we had in the
mail list was the announcement of our four upcoming 14th believe it or not annual 26 hour new year show
which i know got to at least 32 hours the last time i checked in um and then we also
had a comment about the community news being recorded but as this is the last show of the year
i will start by thanking all 57 contributors who contributed to hpr in 2025 57 different people took the time to send
in a show to hpr last year absolutely fantastic thank you ahuka thank you al antoine archer 72
benny brian in ohio candy canator yeah mate but i don't have the next i don't have the link to
for anything which makes no sense because i just typed in can you do the next line it's on the index for

episode just now absolutely and for those who don't know hbr will eventually end at some point and what
we plan to do is end it with honor like um lost in bronx says in the episode old soldiers which
prompted me to help out here at hbr we continue when a podcast shouldn't pod fade it will finish
properly when we have no more shows coming in we'll post all the shows from the reserve feed we'll play
all the shows that have been scheduled in the future and we'll shut the podcast down with grace
hopefully i'll be decomposing in wherever i'm decomposing at that time uh the end comes to us
all but um hbr does rely on people sending in shows and we're not messing that is what we were going to
do when uh when we run out of shows yeah that's it and i i hope that's not in my lifetime either so
yes please keep him coming i want to keep on doing this for a good few years yet and absolutely and
like dave morris who was a long-time janitor able to retire and still continue continue sending in
shows even though he occasionally does come in to clean up the tea room from time to time thanks
